Peranakan Beaded Slippers

'Kasut Manek', literally meaning 'shoe beads', is a type of shoe that dates back to the early twentieth century. The beaded slippers are worn by Peranakan women as a part of their traditional costume. The kasot manek is intricately and finely hand stitched and the popular motifs used for the patterns were flowers, birds, butterflies, and fruits.
